The island consists of only two Hindu villages. Jangu Batu and Lembongan village in separate parts of the island. Both villages practice Ancient Hindu Religion and support themselves by seaweed farming.
It is truly beautiful watching the “seaweeders” poling their boats silhouetted against the sunset.

Playgrounds (Nusa Lembongan) in Bali  is a sheltered reef break that has reliable surf. (is pretty much guaranteed every single day especially in the months May-Oct – Dry Season . Works best in offshore winds from the east southeast with some shelter here from southeast winds. Clean groundswells prevail and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest. There are left and right breaking reefs. Best around mid tide.

Additional Information

High tide allows right to break through about 80 metres. As tide drops, right sections and left starts to barrel. If you’re not quite up to the hidings the other spots on Nusa Lembongan can dish out, check out this spot.

Can surf this spot mid to low, but be warned, although considered a beginners wave for lembonga, it’s still a classic indo break-sharp, shallow and fast for the intermediate. It’s a beautiful spot and well worth surfing even f you can handle shippys and lacerations, the wall is well worth a punt!

Atmosphere

Pretty freaky sitting in the lineup with huge catamarans and pontoons only 100 metres away. Great atmosphere.

General

Love it. The day photos were taken was 5 foot at playgrounds, and about 10 foot at Shipwrecks (fairly serious). Daily Tourists from Bali all over the place snorkelling etc. between 10am and 3pm. They are however well out of the way and never near the line up.

Not easy, not long and not empty but it’s more challenging than neighbours Shipwrecks and Playgrounds. Occasionally the lefts are makeable and there are a few more, hollow, ridiculously shallow sections of reef nearby.

A sheltered reef break that has inconsistent surf. May-Oct (Dry Season) is the optimum time of year for waves. Works best in offshore winds from the east southeast. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the southwest. A right hand reef break. Best around high tide.

The ‘jewel’ of Penida. Toyapakeh, which means ‘salt water’ in Balinese, is the richest site in Penida. It offers a steep wall to the south, terraces with huge hard coral formations in the bay and a shelving reef in the north. The density of coral, sponge and fish life is incredible and on a good day it has all this plus the large pelagics (hammerhead sharks, mantas and sunfish have been spotted here).

The site that has made Penida famous. Very regular sightings of adult Manta Rays, Turtles and Nurse Sharks make this site on the exposed south side of the island stunning, but the sea conditions have to be favourable, so it is definitely a dive to be savoured.
